In the late summer of 2008 we discovered what would be our future home on an 8 acre river lot within walking distance from the Old Pinawa Dam Provincial Park. It is a very quiet, tranquil and private part of the Lee River, supporting numerous species of wild life and a wide variety of trees and wild flowers.
The basic structures were very solid but had not been completely finished or occupied for some time, as they sat quietly in a meadow of foot long grass. The challenge was to transform the structures into a homestead which would be warm and enjoyable to us as well as guests for our future B and B. Having had the cottage experience we were able to include many of the amenities people coming to stay with us would appreciate such as privacy, a large kitchen/dining area, many seating options to lounge about, screened in sitting/eating area, outdoor patio and BBQ, as well as easy access to the sand beach and sun shelter. We also constructed a detached sun room which is used to serve our guest breakfast. Once the house was decorated and furnished to our liking and standards, we started landscaping with colorful perennials, bushes, trees as well as a play structure area for small children and a boat launch for those bringing a boat.
We are so thankful to all the guests who have stayed with us, locally and from around the world. It is so gratifying to hear stories about other countries and their adventures. We learn so much from our guests. Every experience we have had has been extremely gratifying as many of our guests come back for follow up visits.
